The DİTİB Bayreuth Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque sees itself as a center of encounter, faith, and solidarity for Bayreuth and the surrounding region. Our diverse activities include pastoral services, educational and youth offerings, cultural events, social support, as well as dignified burial services through our modern washing and mortuary facilities.

As a spiritual home for Muslim families in our region, our mosque connects a rich tradition with a forward-looking vision, thereby contributing to a vibrant, strong community. In its role as a representative of Turkish-Islamic culture in Bayreuth, it preserves our values while exemplifying respectful and harmonious coexistence in society.

It is a central concern for us to responsibly pass on the legacy of our ancestors to future generations and to preserve this spiritual home for our children as the most valuable heritage.

Our mosque welcomes people of all nations and age groups and looks – rooted in its traditional values – confidently and optimistically towards the future.

The DİTİB Bayreuth is a community association that combines religious and cultural services. Officially, our association is registered under the registration number VR 561 at the Bayreuth District Court. The full name of the association is DITIB Turkish Islamic Community in Bayreuth e.V., and the associated mosque is named Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque. Additionally, our association is affiliated with the DITIB Regional Association of Northern Bavaria.

Chronicle

The association was founded on April 5, 1981, by Monika Neuber and Erol Turgut under the name “Working Group for the Promotion of Relations between Germans and Turks” to strengthen coexistence and mutual understanding in society. Below are the decision dates and the resolutions made in chronological order:

• April 5, 1981: The statutes were adopted, and the association was founded; founding name: “Working Group for the Promotion of Relations between Germans and Turks.” Founding chairperson: Monika Neuber; deputy chairperson: Erol Turgut.
• July 2, 1981: Registered in the association register.
• February 19, 1983: The general assembly decided to rename the association to “German-Turkish Friendship Circle.”
• March 4, 1988: The general assembly decided to rename the association to “Turkish-Islamic Community e.V.” and endorsed the DİTİB membership; thus, the association became a mosque association, and the first mosque was established in the rented basement of a building at the intersection of Feustelstraße and Bürgerreutherstraße.
• May 13, 1989: By resolution of the general assembly, the association's name was changed to “Turkish Community e.V.”
• October 1, 1995: The extraordinary general assembly decided on the amendment of the statutes and the adoption of the new text and renamed the association to “Diyanet Turkish-Islamic Cultural Association for Bayreuth and Surroundings.” Additionally, the general assembly decided to acquire the building at Brandenburgerstraße 51.
• January 5, 2003: The general assembly adopted a new version of the statutes; new name: “DITIB – Turkish Islamic Community in Bayreuth and Surroundings e.V.”
• June 30, 2013: The general assembly adopted the new version of the statutes; new name: “DITIB – Turkish Islamic Community in Bayreuth e.V.”
• June 8, 2018: The general assembly unanimously decided to sell the building at Brandenburgerstraße 51 and acquire the property at Weiherstraße 1.
• October 1, 2019: The move to the new building took place. A temporary prayer room was set up until the renovation of the actual prayer room was completed.
• April 1, 2022: The carpet of the new prayer room was laid out, thus completing the new prayer room.

Since the founding of our association to this day – from the basement room to our now beautiful mosque – may Allah be gracious to all who have dedicated their efforts to our association and thus our mosque, who have supported us materially and morally, and who have remembered us in their prayers. May He grant mercy to the deceased and may their places be paradise; and may He grant the living a healthy and blessed life.
